Juan de Triana (1460-90)

Program :
Complete collection of secular and spiritual songs.
Distribution :
3 singers, 2 instrumentalists

In the 15th century, Spanish musicians drew inspiration from the polyphonic works produced by Franco-Flemish composers. Their compositions are primarily found in the songbooks of La Colombina and Palacio. While these manuscripts are now widely recognized, not all the composers associated with them have achieved lasting fame. Juan de Triana, whose name is now largely forgotten, enjoyed great renown during the reigns of Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. The richness of his musical artistry led to his appointment as director of the cathedral choirs of Seville and Toledo. La Quintina presents a portrait of this great polyphonist, creator of marvelous counterpoint, and offers a complete collection of his sacred songs.
